Dig for Victory Garden – Anderson Shelter with food crops sown on top!The garden is a realistic working portrayal of a war-time Dig for Victory garden which is open to the public, along with the 1940's house on the last Sunday of every month. The garden is planted following exactly the war-time reccommendations of the Ministry of Food – right down to their cropping plan. Using 1940's materials and resources the garden provides a year-round supply of vegetables to supplement the meagre war-time rations. Seasonal organic vegetables are on sale on a "pick-your-own" basis subject to availability. "Potato Pete" would be really pleased! For details visit the charity's website at www.lincolnsfields.co.uk or e-mail: info@lincolnsfields.co.uk. Tel: 01923 233841
In the space of an afternoon they built a fruit cage in the 1940's garden which will help ensure that future crops don't simply feed the birds! |
