Grannies and Grandads — Your Country Needs YOU!

AGAIN! The Bushey Hall Living History Group, part of the Lincolnsfields Children's Charity which owns the site of the former BUSHEY HALL – Headquarters of the 8th USAAF Fighter Command during WW2. has exciting new volunteering opportunities particularly suited to older, retired people – those of the Third Age.

The Group is establishing a Children's WW2 Education project and needs volunteers with a variety of skills – particularly from those who remember the 1940's / 50's.

For Volunteers who like children we would like to involve people as guides for our "Children's WW2 Evacuation Experience Days".

They will be involved in talking to groups of children about life on the Home Front specialising in the role of Women at War, Children in War and the Home Front. They could also be demonstrating artefacts from our 1940's House.

For those who are organised and methodical opportunities exist to be involved in cataloguing and labelling our growing collection of 1940’s civil and military memorabilia, artefacts and ephemera. Warm, comfortable surroundings, light refreshments and support will be provided. Or perhaps they could use their organisational skills to manage our volunteers group and co-ordinate work rotas etc.

For the more creative we would like to involve people in keeping our artefacts in good order – cleaning, painting, repair, helping with scenery painting and creating models or helping us to record oral history – peoples' recollections of wartime.

Volunteers Interested in Gardening could be involved in helping look after our WW2 Dig for Victory garden. An ongoing project to develop and maintain a typical WW2 garden complete with backyard chickens, Anderson shelter etc.

Finally you could be involved in assisting as stewards for our twice yearly public weekend events and in collecting 1940's artefacts from the local community.

The Project manager – Francis McLennan said "This is an opportunity for exciting, rewarding, hands-on volunteering which will help keep alive the reality of a very important period in our local history."

All volunteers will be C.R.B. checked, and will receive any necessary training and support.
We will pay travel expenses and provide light refreshments in warm, comfortable surroundings with access to online computers for administration and research.

For volunteers working over three hours on any day a lunch will be provided.
We believe that "The contributions of older members of the community and those interested in WWll history will be acknowledged and really appreciated and will make such a difference tour work with children."

So come along and get involved in our small friendly community here at Lincolnsfields!
Your time will be precious to us – even a couple of hours a week!
So come on – help us out – "There's a war on you know!!" Lots of ways to help.
